[Image missing: public/uploaded/file_manager/images/DSC073191600(1).jpg]By Order No. 22 of the Minister of Popular Education dated January 12, 1991, the Faculty of Information Technology and Automation (ITAF) and the Communications Training Center merged to form the Information Technology School, established with 4 departments: “Radio Communication”, “Telecommunication”, “Information Technology”, and “Electronics”. From 1991, the Information Technology Department began offering bachelor's and master's level training in the “Information Technology” major; doctoral training began in 1996, and from 2000, bachelor's and master's training in the “Information Systems Automation” major. Bachelor's and master's training in Information Systems began at KTMS in 1998. As part of higher-education reform, from July 1, 2014, the IT professor team of MUST-SICT and the information systems professor teams of KTMS were merged and expanded into the “Information Technology Department”.

TEACHING FACULTY
In the 2022-2023 academic year, the department conducts its training activities with 21 core lecturers and 1 training master — 22 faculty and staff in total — with 42.3% holding academic degrees.
Great attention is paid to improving the knowledge and skills of the teaching staff and sending them to study at universities in developed countries. Today, 5 faculty members in Japan and 1 in Taiwan — 6 faculty in total — are studying at doctoral level abroad. More
RESEARCH PUBLICATIONS AND WORKS
Professors and lecturers of the Information Technology Department have successfully carried out research work and state-funded and contracted projects, and conduct research in the following areas:
- Natural language processing
- Image processing
- Artificial intelligence, machine learning
- Bioengineering
- Big data
Notable progress has been made in improving the research capacity of the department's faculty by sending them to doctoral programs at foreign universities and by having them work alongside experienced researchers.
