Role of the Academic Council

Within the framework of MUST's policies and programs, the Council is responsible for defining and developing the directions, policies, and goals for improving teaching, research, and innovation activities; reviewing their progress and outcomes; producing recommendations, conclusions, and decisions; providing direction to leadership based on these decisions; and submitting proposals to MUST's Academic Council.

In general operations:

  • Defining the school's long-term and near-term outlook;
  • Discussing and approving internal rules and regulations to be followed by all faculty, staff, and students;
  • Reviewing nominees for MUST professor and associate professor titles;
  • Reviewing nominees for MUST honorary professor titles;
  • Approving the annual fiscal budget.

In academic operations:

  • Providing recommendations on all matters related to instruction;
  • Overseeing course curricula;
  • Overseeing curriculum plans;
  • Establishing new majors.

In research operations:

  • Defining the school's strategic research priorities;
  • Overseeing school-wide research and contractual work;
  • Overseeing books, textbooks, and manuals published by the school;
  • Reviewing and submitting proposals on the establishment, modification, or dissolution of the school's constituent departments, research groups, and other research units;
  • Conducting reviews of doctoral candidates' work.
