SICT Students to Participate in ICPC Asia–Hong Kong Regional Olympiad.

The 2025 regional competition of the ICPC Asia Collegiate Programming Contest, the Hong Kong regional competition, will be hosted by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The following student team from the School of Information & Communications Technology, MUST, has been selected to participate in this prestigious competition. Namely:
- M.Munkhbagana
- P.Tserenpuntsag
- P.Bilguuntuguldur
The students' travel and accommodation expenses for the international competition were sponsored by Kh.Buyantogtokh, a 2001 graduate of the school, further reinforcing the wonderful tradition of SICT alumni always supporting the development and success of students.
On behalf of MUST and the SICT community, we extend our gratitude to alumnus Kh.Buyantogtokh for providing the opportunity for our students to achieve success on the international stage.
ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Contest) is the world championship competition in algorithmic programming for teams of university students.
Brief overview:
· Team composition: 3 students, typically working together on 1 computer.
· Competition format: About 5 hours, 10–15 tasks (algorithms, data structures, math-puzzle problems).
· Scoring: First by number of problems solved, then by time spent solving + penalty minutes (added for each incorrect submission).
· Levels: Internal (University, club) → Regional competition (Regional/Asia Regionals, NERC) → World Finals
· Languages: Primarily C/C++, Java; many regions also allow Python (following platform-specific rules).
· Purpose: Tests students' logical thinking, knowledge of algorithms, teamwork, and ability to find solutions under stress.
Why is it important?
· It genuinely develops solution-finding and teamwork skills.
· Opportunity to compete with the world's best students and build networks.
· Many companies (big tech companies) highly value ICPC experience.
Best wishes to the SICT team!
